A solid wax structure with a wick in the middle is known as a candle used to provide light and heat. Candles have been used from generations to light and brighten one's celebration. In ancient times candles were also used for measuring time. The candles were made of wax extracted from a beehive. In India cinnamon is boiled to extract wax and used in temples. Different instruments have been developed to hold candles from small candleholders to decorative chandeliers.

People involved in candle making are known as Chandler. Candles became more decorative items as the use of light bulbs increased. The candle industry expanded its production methods and came up with different sizes, shapes and colors of the candle. The scented candle industry came to light in the early 19th century, with the introduction of new waxes, soy wax extracted from soybean which burns slower and is softer than paraffin and palm wax and the high demand for candles was fulfilled.

Generally, candles were foul-smelling due to the use of animal fat or tallow. Materials like essential oils and natural resins were used by the Egyptians to create scented candles in their times used by all communities. Using modern technology candles are made with a blend of oil and different variety of waxes. The different fragrances of the scented candle like freshly cut grass to relaxing aromatherapy.

Nainital a place located in Uttarakhand is a popular hill station in India. It is also famous for its wide range of colorful and aromatic candles. These candles are one of the attractions for tourism, which makes Nainital an ideal place for the scented candle industry.
