Leather Design & Technical Leather Training workshop was held successfully at Craft Development Institute, CDI, Srinagar. During the period for 1st March 2005 to 17th March 2005 with the support of the office of Development Commissioner of Handicrafts Ministry of Textiles Govt of India.

11 participants joined from different manufacturing organizations to work together with the technical expert Mr. Kalam, from Delhi.

Aim:
The main aim was to develop a product range of Leather goods out of the leftover Leather which comes from the garment Industry. With the use of crewel embroidery, Patchwork & Chain stitch as value addition.

With the use of crewel embroidery and patchwork on Leather about 30 Swatches were created by the participants which later were used on different products from Bags to Cardholders to Key chains etc. This potential needs to be tapped by sharing this work with manufacturers, exporters and local business entities of Srinagar.

Objectives:
Following objectives were formulated for the workshop on leather design:
• Create a product range differing from what normally is being produced in Kashmir.
• Concentrate on the quality & finish of the final product.
• Identify a way of pattern making according to the basic i.e. Flat Bed machine used for productions.
• To demonstrate the use of crewel embroidery chain stitch and Patchwork for value addition to the product.
