Introduction
Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh is one of the places known for Jharokha with Madhubani painting. The land of Madhya Pradesh is steeped in distinctive traits of art and culture. Glorious temples, magnificent palaces, divine poets like Kalidas, musical masters like Tansen, Biju Baora, political prodigies –Vikramaditya, Raja Bhoja, Rani Durgawati and many more are the pride of this place. This place is always known for its rich heritage and classical tradition of music and dance. Madhya Pradesh is known as the Heart of India not only for its center position but also for its cultural vividness.
Artisan Pooja from Bhopal was interested in art from her childhood and she has pursued a bachelor of fine arts and attended many examinations related to arts and received certificates; as per her interest, she developed the skills in Madhubani painting, murals, miniatures and organic paintings. After her marriage when she wanted to start a business she decided to work on Jharokha with Madhubani painting where Jharokha belongs to Rajasthan. Her idea was to portray two different states in one particular painting. She is well recognized for the invention of the new concept of combining two different traditions together.
Jharokha
Jharokha is a type of enclosed balcony, which is most commonly seen in the architecture of Rajasthan. The Jharokha is a stone window projecting from the wall face of a building, in an upper story, overlooking a street, market, court or any other open space. The projected balcony is an essential element of Rajasthan architecture, both as a decoration and as a viewing platform. Jharokhas are mainly used in palaces, Havelis and temples.
Madhubani Painting
Madhubani painting is originally from the village Madhubani and Mithila in Bihar. This painting is done on various mediums such as cloth, handmade paper, and canvas. The themes followed are basically of Indian traditional figures like Hindu deities such as Krishna, Ram, Shiva, Durga, Lakshmi, and also the painting of nature. Vibrant and bold colors are used in this painting work and the theme is drawn in a style of traditional geometric patterns. Scenes of royal courts and social events such as the celebration of the wedding are also beautifully depicted in Madhubani paintings. Some of the main characteristics of all the Madhubani paintings are double line border, decorative floral patterns, abstract-like figures of deities and bulging eyes of the figures.
