Fibre Extracting

  • Printer-friendly version

Coconut fibre removing process is laborious and time-taking process when it is practiced in a traditional manner using manual tools. Hence, in Adivala the artisans have a setup of all automated machines to extract the fibre and also to refine it. First stage is fibre extracting; this is done using de-fibering machine. The machine automatically removes the fibers from the husk and separates coir pith. The extracted coir fibre is again processed in second stage using another refining machine to make coir clean and soft. The remaining coir pith – which was earlier considered as wastage is now used as a substitute for horticultural production. Hence coir pith is a by-product. The modern method of fiber extracting using automated machines makes work faster, easier and also more productivity. Processed fiber is exported to Gujarat, Mysore, Bangalore and other parts of India to make different coir products.
