In our world today, where social media plays a vital role in the field of communication. How fortunate are we to be in this era where with one click of a button, we can spark a sensation and reach the people worldwide? But having said this, we find ourselves wondering what the posts on such platforms are conveying? And have we taken this boon for granted? Is the information on the web authentic? Is there any miscommunication? It becomes very baffling to understand the meaning at times. Having the communication ready in hand, but at the same time, we find ourselves so detached from our one-on-one human interaction. Verbal communication has a steady decrease, and this leads to an increase in miscommunication. On reading an email, text, or post, we become too far fetched from the sender's source. We scrutinized every detail of the message.

What happens when verbal communication dominates? And the script does not exist? When words are passed down generations after generations, they tend to get interwoven with the story and sometimes get manipulated.

This project attempts to study the traditional methods of the tribal communication practices of The Khasis – Jaintia Tribe of Meghalaya India through bamboo ringlets. The work has been done based on both Primary and Secondary Sources.

The primary sources include :

  • The explanations from Kongor A Diengdoh, who takes care of the customs and rituals of the Syiem family in Smit,
  • Interaction with Mrs. Sweetymon Rynjah, an ethnographer, author, and civil servant in Shillong.
  • Interviews with Ms. Naphi Lyngdoh, a young historian and archaeologist.
  • Translation of certain texts from Pnar to Khasi by Mr. Dawroi Challam, Research Scholar Tezpur University.

The secondary sources have been drawn from published works, journals, magazines, articles, research works, websites, and other printed materials.
