Emergency Patient Transfer System
Introduction

  • Printer-friendly version

Patient Transfer in India is at a nascent stage of development. There is lack of knowledge about the transfer of patients. In the absence of guidelines, the workforce available for pre‐hospital and hospital‐based patient transfer varies enormously. Available personnel and their skills often do not match the needs of the patients. We have transporting equipments like the stretcher, the trolley, a wheelchair etc. but there is no transferring equipment for the patients.

The project 'Emergency Patient Transfer System' deals with the current transfer equipment available in the market, issues or advantage and disadvantages related to same and design the transferring equipment for patient.

The Need:

The need for patient transfer system arises in various scenarios. In different scenarios patient is transferred from one surface to the other (stretcher/hospital bed etc). The initial transfer of patient, which is done by lifting, can cause injury to patient.

Inside the hospital, many times, the patient has to be transferred laterally to various department beds for constant monitoring and checkups. But, the same old method for lateral transfer of patient followed in many hospitals and has caused painful injury to patients. There are no aids for easier transfer and safety of the patient. Also, the Government bodies are not willing to pay higher prices for costly transfer equipment.

The narrator had attempted to find the difficulties in Indian scenario and make us aware about this serious issue related to patient transfer system.
