Priests of Shivkuti Temple

Around five-six priests we met at the Shivkuti temple Allahabad, with whom we discussed Maharajin Bua and her son.

Priests were really appreciative of Maharajin Bua and we got similar information from them too but somehow, in the end, they were against the concept of feminism not directly but indirectly which somehow gave us the counterpart of the discussion.

Interview highlights

• She always supported the poor and never took money if somebody didn’t have it and through her behaviour, she did a lot for the poor and people still worship her.

• In the country more women might be like her but not on Rasoolabad Ghaat. We are related to Jagdish. She never took even a single penny from poor people.

• She has two sons, Jagdish and one more is there.

• People used to know her with Maharajin Bua.

• This is a big thing that women took this work since it’s not allowed in society but she escaped that perspective. And people accepted what she did. In the starting there were problems but afterwards, everything was fine.

• After this no women took this up.

• Today feminism is happening with a motive of selfishness, for identity.

• Today’s women are doing feminism for an identity crisis. In old days, if the doctor is well-educated people used to call her “doctrine”. Today a woman who is well educated will never marry a less educated man. We have done too much for the women but still, they are against us. They say we have suppressed, but it’s not true.
