'Learning with Puppets - The Art of Enacting Storyties'

Puppets are always fascinating, surrounded by an atmosphere of unreality and fantasy, magic and comedy. This project aimed to experiment and explore the potential of puppets, by placing them in the small hands and minds of children allowing them to learn and explore through role playing. Towards the end, I studied briefly about the learning stages amongst children (a part of child psychology), and learnt to make puppets from a traditional craftsman in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

The emergent concepts were puppets designed to facilitate role playing. A set of puppets which comprises of a family were explored using found objects and waste materials. This has formed a kind of kit that includes a stage and allows children to role-play with puppets in different settings.

The final deliverables are in the form of a set of puppets made using found and waste objects which are child safe and a theater box developed to facilitate role playing and storytelling.
