The usage of augmented reality technology is spreading at an enormous scale in our everyday life. Adoption in the education sector has also taken up its pace. In this project we focus on exploration of inter-marker interaction for communicating the concepts of crystal lattices (structures) as well as creating them through Augmented Reality. Crystal structure is a description of the ordered arrangement of atoms, ions or molecules in a crystalline material [1]. The project will involve development of a prototype which would allow users to create different lattices using modularity and view the parts selectively such as particular lattice points (atoms, molecules or ions) or bonds, empty spaces, types of voids, edge lengths and face angles.

Modularity as a concept will also be brought in the picture where several markers when combined form a system (or network). Defects and their inspection of their causes is kept for the future scope. Augmented reality would enable the user to move across the lattice to notice its different parts from different angles and zoom into the picture. Traditional methods with 3D softwares do not provide that kind of immersive experience. For this project we will be using tangible AR [2] where we shall be using multiple markers and interacting with them to work with lattices. Screen based interactions are kept at the minimum. This prototype can be used to explain the concept of lattices better to school and engineering students where they learn by creating.
