The banyan tree is the national tree of India. Traditionally Banyan tree has several connotations – sacred tree, wisdom tree, etc. Buddha is believed to have sat under the banyan tree and got his enlightenment. God Shiva is shown sitting in silence under the banyan with his disciples.
