Nature is highly varied; millions of life forms that we know of and possibly a million more that we don’t know of. Animals are visually strong – they have infinite structures estranged behaviours and whimsical shapes. They survive in environments that are usually unwelcome to us humans. There is a lot to learn from the different species who share our planet. This will not be a possibility if we drive them all into extinction. So far there have been 5 mass extinctions, the most known being the extinction of dinosaurs. All of these have been due to natural causes. Scientists have stated that we are now on the course of the 6th mass extinction. This would be the first time that one species is responsible for the elimination of so many others.

For many years now, humans have played a major role in species extinction through overharvesting, pollution, habitat destruction, and introduction of invasive species (such as new predators and food competitors), overhunting, and other influences. All beings live in an intricately wound web of co-dependency, hence it is hard to predict how the loss of one species impacts the other. If we are aware of their existence and understand how vital they are for our ecosystem, we can collectively ensure their survival. The book, Kingdom Animalia is an attempt to help bring the enormity of what is happening within our grasp. Using the medium of visual communication to create awareness about species extinction and reduce the sense of disconnection between us and the animal kingdom. This book will act as a visual medium that aids in the education of threatened species of India. A guide to identify these species, state the reasons for their disappearance and finally the consequences of the same.
