Indian carpet weaving has always been a reflection of the richness of the Indian culture infused with radiant exotic colors and lyrical patterns. The art of carpet making was introduced in India by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. Later under the deft hands of skilled artisans this art evolved from royal designs and patterns to very contemporary ones. The art of carpet weaving is no longer confined to recurring intricate and infinite patterns woven in an ordered symmetry with dense ornamentation but is now accommodating new designs leading to geometric and floral with the arabesque. Woven with either silk or wool of the highest quality, colours of myriad shades are used to liven them and once limited to organic dyes alone now are found colored with various synthetic shades as well.
