Nature watching is a constructive activity. The phenomenon of falling leaves is seen around the world especially during the autumn months of the year. The leaves fall to the ground, forming a striking texture consisting of different shapes and sizes and warm colours. Falling leaves, because of the diverse types, shapes, sizes and colours display a variety of patterns when they fall. The air currents carry some leaves a great distance while others simply float slowly to the soil below.

• Why Leaves?
The phenomenon of falling leaves is a universal event, and individuals of all ages can observe, experience and enjoy the activity. Moreover, it does not cost anything to go out on an evening stroll and enjoy the natural beauty of hundreds of multi-coloured leaves cascading to the ground.

Parameters of a leaf fall Leaves of different kinds fall in different patterns. No two patterns are the same. Yet, it is possible to trace a general pattern between leaves of an almost similar shape, size and level of dryness.

It is not repetitive and monotonous unlike the other events in nature like rainfall, snowfall, waterfall fruits/branches from trees. Children may also be encouraged to pick the leaves and drop them once more, to understand the activity of falling.
