Vada Pav

  • The potatoes are boiled and peeled.

  • Batter is prepared by adding water, salt and chilly powder to the gram flour.

  • The potatoes are then mashed.

  • Curry leaves, brown mustard seeds and salt are added to the mashed potato mixture.

  • Small dumplings are made out of the potato mixture.

  • The dumplings are dipped in the flour mixture and deep fried in vegetable oil until deep brown.

  • The same way raw potatoes can be sliced by using a slicer.

  • Then sliced potatoes can be deep fried with same batter.

  • A pav is then sliced into half.

  • Red chutney(made of dried coconut) is applied inside the pav.

  • The vada is then placed into the pav and served with sauteed green chillies.

Vada Pav is a popular vegetarian fast food dish native to the state of Maharashtra, India. It consists of a batata(potato) vada sandwiched between 2 slices of pav(bread). It is served with fried green chillies and chutney(sauce) made out of shredded coconut. The dish was initially started as the cheapest form of a meal for the lower income group but due to its taste, the dish became popular and is served all across the state of Maharashtra and even Gujrat.
