by
Prof. Ravi Poovaiah

  • Printer-friendly version

These figures were discovered by some local farmers in Shaanxi province in China and were made in 3rd Century BC though discovered only in 1974.

This was commissioned by Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China with an aim of protecting him after his death in his after life.

These scale models depict the process of making of the terracotta horses. There were more than 650 horses. This was part of over 7000 life-size figures of soldiers, musicians, chariots etc.

This documentation is from the exhibition at the Asian Civilisation Museum in Singapore.
