Pottery in the Indian subcontinent has an ancient history and is one of the most tangible and iconic elements of regional art. While traditional blue pottery from Jaipur now has only a few families practicing the craft, Khurja near Delhi has emerged as a big center for the ceramic industry. Though the products here are mostly slip-cast (one of the techniques of large scale production), their uniqueness lies in their design quotient and color palette. A lot of intricate patterns are hand-painted in bright blues, greens, oranges, yellows and reds! The product range includes tableware (cups, saucers, plates, bowls etc.), pen stands, incense stick holders, soap dispensers, trays, piggy banks, vases and planters.
