Cascade roofs are very common in Portuguese architecture the structure is made up of king post and queen post trusses these support the sloping roof (cascade). The trusses are wooden trusses with cross purlin which hold the tiles. Cascade roofs have become an architectural element in Goa, Climatologically to withstand heavy rain and these cascade roofs are beautified with ornamented fascias. The tiles used are Mangalore tiles or sometimes pot tiles. Sometimes one of the tiles is replaced with a glass slab to introduce day light into the building. The roof ends with a gutter to drain rain water from the roof. Cascaded roofs are typical of goan architecture.
