Title: 'Altered Pages'

Abstract:  The workshop offers an artistic and typographic approach to “Blackout Poetry”. Students will repurpose the pages of old dictionary to create poetic and typographic works of art. During the workshop, participants will alter already printed pages as a metaphor for “rewriting” their own story. Personal expression and ability to process experiences through typography and letterforms on existing typographic pages is central to this activity. Existing text is integrated into altering and transforming these pages selectively while incorporating additional typographic forms to enhance the communication.

Materials/ tools to be brought by student participants: 
Old Dictionary pages (at least 20 pages) in any language and in any size. Cutter, Glue, Scissors, A3 size black cartridge papers (2 numbers), pencil B and 2B, black marker, black sketch pen, black ink, 1 medium and 1 small size paint brush, 12” steel ruler, cello tape, masking tape, A4 size tracing paper (2 sheets), small A5 size sketchbook.

Prof. Kumkum Nadig

Kumkum is a visual communication designer and an educator. With over 35 years of professional and 20 years of academic experience, Kumkum brings with her a unique approach to visual communication that is informed by her multi-faceted education in architecture, industrial design and graphic design.
Kumkum currently holds the position of the dean of school of design, business and technology at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore, and also works as a design director at her design firm Kena Design.
Kumkum’s interests are in design education, curriculum planning, art and design history, expressive typography, book arts as well as music, farming, and herbology.
